Merry Christmas! He’s a much bigger gift that you could ever imagine!

tempe-n-bearHave you ever gotten a gift for Christmas for which you hoped but never imagined that you would really get it? Surprise! You got it, and it was so much bigger and better than you could have ever imagined.

The other night my friend, Bill, told me that his granddaughter had won a 94 inch FAO Schwartz teddy bear at a local department store.  He showed me this picture of his granddaughter with the bear.  Look at the size of the gift and the size of the child!  Now, I’m not sure of what she was thinking when her parents told her that she had be given a giant teddy bear; but this bear was a whole lot larger than any teddy bear that she had ever seen.  What does a little girl do with a giant teddy bear?  My answer: she loves it as she begins to realize just how big it really is.

This got me to thinking about God’s gift to us on that first Christmas.  Jesus came as a poor infant with no place to lay His head but a feed trough in a stable. However, He was a much  bigger gift than we could ever hope for or imagine. He was not just another baby. He was born to become not only our personal Lord and Savior; but the King of Kings and Lord of Lords.   Here’s a devotional thought from the Advent Devotional, Journey to the Manger:   ( The Bible app – I suggest you install this app on your phone.)

Not Just Another Baby

Just another baby would not have been preceded by hundreds of prophecies about His birth, life, and, death.

Just another baby would not have been conceived in the most miraculous way possible.

Just another baby would not have merited a birth announcement from the hosts of heaven.

Just another baby would not have inspired shepherds to leave behind their sheep to find Him.

Just another baby would not have compelled wise men from the east to go on a quest to find Him.

Just another baby would not have made Simeon’s lifelong wait worthwhile or brought praise to the lips of Anna.

Just another baby would not have become a man who gave sight to the blind, hearing to the deaf, freedom to the possessed, life to the dead, and forgiveness to the guilty.

Just another baby would not have become the Lamb of God who would willingly take away the sin of the world.

No, He was not just another baby. He was, is, and always will be Jesus Christ, King of Kings and Lord of Lords.      (from In Touch Ministries on the Bible App)

What do you do with a gift like Jesus?   You love Him and begin to realize just how big He really is!  You do this by choosing to follow Him.  He’ll really surprise you!
